Coaching by professional musicians is an integral part of a CMNC workshop. We select the coaching staff for each workshop from Northern California’s abundance of excellent musicians, looking for those who are active chamber players themselves, experienced at working with adult amateurs, and, above all, share our passion for chamber music.

Each coach works with two groups throughout the day, so you have time to hear their suggestions and time alone with your group to make them your own. Coaches are notified in advance of your repertoire, so they come prepared to help with your specific piece, as well as ensemble, listening and musicality skills to enrich your musical life.
On Saturday, following the afternoon coaching session, each coach’s two groups join with another coach’s two groups for a master class. The four groups each perform a selection of their music and receive additional coaching from the other coach.
Following the master classes, the entire workshop comes together to enjoy a coaches’ concert, which is always a highlight of the day. Memorable past concerts have included performances by the Ives Collective, the Alexander and Del Sol String Quartets, the wind-and-piano sextet Frequency 49, and the bass clarinet duo Sqwonk.
CMNC has been privileged to work with these coaches over the past decade or more.
