To make the most of your experience, CMNC asks you to prepare in advance of the workshop. Music assignments and fellow group members are emailed a few weeks prior to each workshop. Becoming familiar with your assigned music will help you play more cohesively as an ensemble and take better advantage of your coach’s guidance. Our goal is for you to have a rewarding day rehearsing and playing chamber music together!

Here are some helpful suggestions to prepare for a CMNC workshop:

  • Find a recording on YouTube or other sites and listen to your assigned music.
  • Obtain and practice your part ahead of time: your acceptance email will share the many options for finding your assigned music.
  • Reach out to the other members of your group to discuss the music, preferred movement(s) to rehearse, tempos, etc. If time and geography allows, groups sometimes meet beforehand for an informal read through.
  • Read our article “Preparing for a Workshop” (PDF) for more ideas on workshop preparation.
  • Number the measures in your part, at least at the start of every line. For suggestions on how to properly number the measures in your music, see “How to Add Measure Numbers” (PDF).
